Doha: Al Bidda and Al Sailiya have secured their spots in the final of the seventh edition of the Second Division Cup for the current football season. The two teams triumphed in their semi-final clashes on Thursday evening, with Al Bidda defeating Al Waab 2-0 at Hamad bin Khalifa Stadium, while Al Sailiya edged past Al Markhiya 1-0 at Suheim bin Hamad Stadium. Cristian Dal Bello opened the scoring for Al Bidda, while Faisal Al Borshid netted the decisive goal for Al Sailiya.
The final, scheduled for May 26, will see Al Bidda chasing their second title in the competition, having previously clinched the trophy in the 2021 edition. Meanwhile, Al Sailiya, currently leading the Second Division League standings, aim to claim their maiden championship.
Reflecting on the tournament’s history, Muaither FC dominated the early years, securing back-to-back titles in 2017 and 2019, while Mesaimeer SC claimed victories in the 2018 and 2020 seasons. Al Shahaniya emerged as the most recent champions, lifting the cup in the 2022-2023 edition. Notably, the competition was suspended for the 2023-2024 season, marking a brief hiatus before its revival this yeaar.
