DOHA: Al Khuraitiyat has joined QNB Stars League officially after edging Mesaimeer 1-0 in a key Second Division clash at Suhaim Bin Hamad Stadium.
Yousif Edrissi netted Al Khuraitiyat's lone goal on 61 minutes in the game that saw Mesaimeer's skipper Abdulrahman Mustafa sent off after receiving a second yellow card in the 53rd minute.
Al Khuraitiyat had fallen to the Second Division last season but the club dominated this season from the early stages and qualified with three rounds to spare in the competition.
Even allowing for the enforced break due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it has been a campaign where Al Khuraitiyat have dominated proceedings since the opening rounds and proved a tough match up for the rest of the second flight sides.
It should be noted that Qatar Football Association (QFA) regulations stipulates that the club coming in last position in First Division will join the Second Division, while the club ranked 11th in the First Division will play against the club ranked second in Second Division.
In another match between Al Shamal and Al Markhiya shared a 2-2 draw at Grand Hamad Stadium.
Al Shamal, the oldest club in the competition, seemed en route to a comfortable victory after a Claudio Vasquez brace in the second half, however, two goals for Al Markhiya through former Qatar and Jordan internationals, Ali Faridoun and Baha'a Faisal ensured parity between the two sides.
