DOHA: The 19th week of the Second Division witnessed a change in the league's standings after wins by Al Markhiya and Al Shamal.
Al Markhiya beat Al Kharaitiyat 2-1 and Al Shamal edged Muaither 1-0.
Al Markhiya go top of the standings with a tally of 27 points after handing Al Khuraitiyat their first loss of the season.
Al Kharaitiyat have already secured promotion for the QNB Stars League next season.
Al Shamal, meanwhile, advanced to fourth place (24 points) with a convincing performance following the resumption of play.
Muaither had to finish the game with 10 men after Fred Dabenka was shown the red card in the 15th minute.
With the victory achieved, Al Markhiya continues to compete with Mesaimeer for second place in the league.
If Mesaimeer lose the final round clash, Al Markhiya could grab the second spot. Al Khuraitiyat have an unbeatable tally of 36 points.
Al Markhiya opened the scoring in the 10th minute through Ali Al Mohannadi but Al Khuraitiyat managed to equalize in the 51st minute through Abdul Hadi Noman.
Al Markhiya managed to score the second goal in the 61st minute through Claudio Vazquez.
In the first match, Al Shamal succeeded in winning over Muaither after a goal by Talal Munir in the 17th minute at Suhaim bin Hamad Stadium.
Al Shamal now have a tally of 24 points while Muaither’s tally stands at 21 points.
