DOHA: Reigning champions maintained their perfect record in Qatar Stars League (QSL) this season but were made to work hard in their 1-0 victory over a spirited Al Ahli side at Al Sadd Stadium yesterday.
Last season’s Player of the Year winner Khalfan Ibrahim scored the only goal of the match in the 20th minute.
The Qatari striker was given an easy tap in after new striker Leandro Da Silva broke away from his marker and pin-pointed his low cross to Ibrahim.
It was far from a convincing performance for the reigning champions, and the visitors put on a strong display especially in the second half that tested Al Sadd’s defence.
In other matches yesterday, Zico’s Al Gharafa shared the points in a 0-0 stalemate against Al Khor
Qatar Sports Club ran out 3-0 winners against Muaither, whilst Al Sailiya’s Barro Babo Seddiqi scored the only goal of the match, to help his side claim all three points against Al Arabi.
In today’s action, Lekhwiya face a tricky match against Al Kharatiat, while Al Rayyan take on Al Wakrah and El Jaish meet Umm Salal.
