Al-Sailiya Crowned Second Division Champions

Doha: Hassan Jumaa Al-Mohannadi, a member of the Executive Committee of the Qatar Football Association, crowned Al-Sailiya as champions of the Second Division League for the 2024-2025 season. The team secured the title after defeating Al-Waab 1-0 with a goal by player Mahab Mohammed in their final-week clash at Abdullah Bin Khalifa Stadium in Al-Duhail. This victory brought Al-Sailiya’s total points to 28, clinching the top spot and securing direct promotion to the Ooredoo Stars League for the 2025-2026 season. The decisive matchday also saw Al-Kharitiyat, Al-Sailiya’s direct competitor for promotion, suffer a 0-4 loss to Mesaimeer at Hamad Bin Khalifa Stadium in Al-Ahli. This result left Al-Kharitiyat stuck in third place with 23 points. Meanwhile, Al-Markhiya secured second place after defeating Muaither 2-0, finishing with 25 points. Al-Markhiya will now face Umm Salal, the 11th-placed team in the current 2024-2025 Qatar Stars League, in a playoff for top-flight qualification. In another match, Al-Bidda edged Lusail 3-2. Following the Al-Sailiya vs. Al-Waab match, the trophy ceremony took place, with Al-Mohannadi awarding the champions their gold medals and the league shield in the presence of QFA Secretary-General Mansoor Al-Ansari. The final standings after Matchday 14 placed Al-Sailiya first (28 points), Al-Markhiya second (25), Al-Kharitiyat third (23), Al-Waab fourth (19), Lusail fifth (18), Al-Bidda sixth (15), Mesaimeer seventh (12), and Muaither eighth (11). This season featured fierce competition among the leading teams, with multiple clubs holding the top spot at various stages. Al-Sailiya ultimately triumphed, marking their return to the Qatar Stars League after a two-season absence, having last competed in the top flight during the 2022-2023 campaign.
