KUWAIT CITY: Qatar’s head coach, Luis Garcia, expressed confidence in his team’s readiness ahead of their Gulf Cup encounter with Oman on Tuesday. The match will be held at Jaber Al-Mubarak International Stadium, pitting two former champions against each other.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference on Monday, Garcia emphasized his team’s focus and determination. “Every game is different, but we aim to concentrate on our own performance. Our goal is always to secure victory and improve our possession play. The team’s spirit is excellent, but we need to approach the game with more composure,” he said.
Reflecting on Qatar’s spirited 1-1 draw with the UAE in their opening match, Garcia acknowledged the challenges posed by integrating new players. “The last game wasn’t easy, as we introduced some fresh faces to the squad. However, I believe we can take another step forward in this match,” he noted.
Garcia praised Oman’s strengths, labeling them as a “dynamic team with fast players,” and stressed the need for balance in transitions. “Oman will be a tough opponent. We must be cautious during attacks and maintain defensive balance. It will be a challenging match, but we are prepared to give our best,” he added.
The Spanish coach also highlighted the team’s commitment to continuous improvement. “We can only promise hard work. Mistakes are part of football, but our goal is to minimize them and build on the positives. The team is ready to play good football, which I value highly,” Garcia said.
On star player Akram Afif, who scored Qatar’s goal against the UAE, Garcia remarked: “Akram is always ready to support the national team. For this match, we will introduce some new players. It’s essential to integrate fresh talent to ensure a bright future for Qatari football.”
Garcia concluded by emphasizing the importance of fostering competition within the team, noting that every player is fighting for their place and contributing to the team’s development.
Qatar will aim to secure their first win of the tournament as they face Oman in this crucial Group A fixture.
