DOHA: German football giants Schalke on Monday beat Qatar Stars League
(QSL) side Al Gharafa 2-1 in a friendly played at the latter's home
turf.
Adam Szalai got both goals against the seven-time Qatari champions,
who are coached by Brazilian legend Zico.
Szalai scored the two goals in the 49th and 57th minutes.
The Royal Blues had the better of the opening exchanges, with
effervescent Under-19 forward Donis Avdijaj featuring most prominently
in front of goal, albeit without any success.
Jens Keller was forced into an early change, however, after Max Meyer
hobbled off with a groin problem, a report on Schalke's official
website said.
Al Gharafa took the lead with their first serious attempt on goal in
the 26th minute when Nene, previously of Paris St. Germain, beat
goalkeeper Timo Hildebrand with a shot from just outside the area.
