DOHA: Al Kharaitiyat handed two-time champions Lekhwiya a shock 2-0 defeat in the second round of the Qatar Stars League at the Lekhwiya Stadium on Saturday. Brazilian defender Domingos Nascimento put the Blues ahead in the 23rd minute while striker Jaycee John made it 2-0 in the 69th. It was the second defeat for Lekhwiya in a week, having lost to Guangzhou Evergrande 1-4 in the Doha leg of the AFC Champions League quarterfinal on Wednesday. The cops had also dropped points against lowly Al Sailiya in the opening game by playing out a 3-3 draw. Meanwhile, Emir’s Cup champions Al Rayyan’s poor start to the League campaign continued as Al Wakrah defeated them 3-1. Michel Souza netted a brace after Sebastian Saez put them ahead in the 69th. Rodrigo Tabata was Rayyan’s lone scorer. In the day’s other match, El Jaish and Umm Salal played out a goalless draw.
