Doha: Spanish coach Julen Lopetegui, Head Coach of Qatar, affirmed that his team's World Cup qualification dream remains undimmed, stating that Wednesday's draw with Oman will not negatively affect the squad ahead of their crucial match against the UAE on October 14th.
Reflecting on the 1-1 draw in Group One of the Asian World Cup qualifiers, Lopetegui said his Maroons delivered a solid performance and were unfortunate not to claim all three points. "We performed at a good level throughout the match," he stated during the press conference at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium. "We faced a tenacious team that excelled in closing down defensive spaces, but despite that, we created several chances without managing to convert them."
He elaborated that while they encountered a defensively robust Omani side, Qatar persistently manufactured opportunities and battled across the pitch, though the scoreline refused to change. The coach also defended his team selection, explaining that the starting lineup was ideal considering player injuries and that every individual involved had fulfilled their duties, but the chances simply were not converted.
