DOHA: Mesaimeer will take on Al Markhiya in the Second Division Cup final which will be held on Thursday, January 24, at the Thani Bin Jassim Stadium in Al Gharafa.
Both teams qualified for the final after defeating Al Wakra and Al Muaither in their respective semi-final. Mesaimeer beat Al Wakra 6-5 on penalties while Al-Markhiya defeated Muaither 1-0.
The match between Mesaimeer and Al-Wakra ended 1-1 in regulation time after Mahmoud Hassan gave the Mesaimeer the lead in the 30th minute. Anthony Bassi equalized for Al Wakra in the 70th minute.
The penalty shootout was clinched by Mesaimeer.
In the second semi-final, Al Markhiya won with a narrow margin after Hamoud Yazidi scored a late goal in the 84th miniute.
Al Markhiya qualified second in Group A which was headed by Al Wakra with 4 points while Al-Markhiya finished second with 3 points and Al Shamal managed just one point.
On the other hand, Muaither scored four points and Mesaimeer came in second with three points after the two matches, leaving Al Bida and Al Shamal out of the competition.
