DOHA: Mesaimeer has been crowned champions of the Second Division Cup after beating Muaither 1-0 in the final match that took place on Monday evening at Al Sailiya Club Stadium.
Mesaimeer was crowned the champions in the 2019-2018 season while Muaither was crowned winners in the 2017-18 and 2019-20 seasons.
Yassin Al Salhi scored the only goal of the match in the 36th minute.
The match remained a thrilling affair between the two teams, especially in the second half, which witnessed continuous attempts by Muaither to find the equaliser.
The prize distribution ceremony took place immediately after the end of the match in accordance with the precautionary measures followed by the Qatar Football Association.
The players and the technical and administrative staff of Mesaimeer received gold medals.
The road to the final:
Mesaimeer reached the final match after defeating Al Shamal, the Second Division champions, 2-1 while Muaither beat Al Markhiya 1-0 in the two semi-final matches.
The four teams qualified for the semi-final round after Al-Markhiya topped the general standings in the preliminary round with 12 points. Mesaimeer finished second with 7 points, compared to 5 points for the third-placed Al Shamal and 2 points for fourth-placed Muaither. Al Shahaniya finished fifth with 1 point.
