Doha: Qatar Football Association executive committee member Ahmed Abdulaziz Al Buainain, crowned Muaither as the champion of the Second Division League for the 2022-23 season after they defeated Al Waab 1-0 in the final round game, which took place at Saoud Bin Abdulrahman Stadium. Muaither thus directly qualified for the QNB Stars League for the next season.
Meanwhile, Al Khor secured second place despite losing to Al Khartiyat 2-1 in their final game, which was also held at Hamad Bin Khalifa Stadium. Al Khor will play a play-off match against the team that finishes in eleventh place in the QNB Stars League this season on May 14. The Second Division League concluded after a fierce battle for qualification, which Muaither won in the final moments of the league.
Nabil Al Zhar scored Muaither's only goal in the 67th minute from a penalty kick, and despite the win and qualification, it was a difficult victory against Al Waab, who put up a great fight. Muaither's points tally reached 31, while Al Waab's remained at 14.
The awards ceremony took place immediately after the game, starting with the honoring of the match observer, referee assessor, and match officials. Then, the Muaither team received their gold medals, and the team captain, Nabil Al Zhar, received the league shield amid immense joy from the players and the technical and administrative staff.
In another game, Al Wakrah and Al Kharaitiyat tied 1-1, with Ibrahim Mohammed Al Sayed scoring for Al Wakrah in the 26th minute, and Abdulmajid Saeed Shamas scoring for Al Kharaitiyat in the 57th minute. This result lifted Al Wakrah to 13 points and Al Kharaitiyat to 24 points. In addition, Mesaimeer and Al Bidaa drew 0-0, with Mesaimeer's points tally reaching 15, while Al Bidaa increased theirs to 10 points.
