Doha: The Qatar Football Association has confirmed that players Mohammed Muntari and Abdulkarim Hassan will miss the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifier against Kyrgyzstan on Tuesday. Both players sustained injuries, ruling them out of the eighth-round Group A clash in the third round of qualifiers for the tournament hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
Medical assessments revealed that striker Mohammed Muntari suffered a hamstring injury during recent training sessions, while defender Abdulkarim Hassan sustained an ankle injury during last Thursday’s 5-1 victory over North Korea in the seventh round. Their recovery is expected to take three to four weeks, sidelining them the for critical fixture.
The Qatari national team is scheduled to depart Doha for Bishkek on Sunday evening following a final training session. The squad will conduct their main training session on Monday at Bishkek’s Dolon Omurzakov Stadium ahead of the crucial match.
In Group A standings, Iran leads with 19 points, three points clear of second-placed Uzbekistan (16 points). The UAE sits third with 10 points, edging Qatar on goal difference, though both teams share the same tally. Kyrgyzstan occupies fifth place with three points, narrowly ahead of bottom-placed North Korea, who trail by a single point.
