Doha: Qatar and Oman played to a goalless draw at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium in their first match of Round Four (Asian Playoffs) for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. The match, part of Group A which also includes the United Arab Emirates, saw both teams struggle to convert their chances.
The Maroons began the match with clear dominance, imposing their will on the Omani side through a high press and constant attacking threat. The first significant attempt came in the 13th minute when a direct free kick from Khoukhi Boualem whistled past the post.
The home side continued their offensive efforts, with an Admilson Junior cross being safely collected by the Omani goalkeeper in the 19th minute. Oman's first threat arrived in the 28th minute when Issam Al-Sabhi penetrated the area, only to be denied by a save from goalkeeper Mahmoud Abunada. The visitors came close again just before halftime, with an Al-Sabhi header rattling the crossbar in the 42nd minute.
In the second half, Qatar intensified its pressure. Akram Afif squandered a golden opportunity in the 49th minute, weaving past several defenders before firing his shot wide of the post. Spanish coach Márquez López made several substitutions to rejuvenate the Maroons' attack, but the team ultimately failed to translate their chances into a winning goal, and the match concluded with a scoreless draw.
