DOHA: A late own-goal from Abulrehman Issa secured Qatar SC a 3-2 victory over defending champions El Jaish in the QNB Cup semi-finals at the Al Arabi Stadium yesterday.
An angled shot from Adriano Ferreira Martins in the extra-time (108th minute) took a slight deflection off the 23-year-old defender’s legs — who came in as a substitute for Abdulla Ayesh in the second half — and beat Jaish goalkeeper Saoud al-Khater.
Jaish’s latest slip, however, rested on the entire team except 26-year-old Brazilian midfielder Wagner Renan Ribeiro, who scored a brace, as the defending champions failed to get decisive shots on target when required.
Jaish were reduced to 10 men when Yousuf Muftah was shown the red card in the 34th minute for bringing down his former teammate Adriano. The 32-year-old Adriano, who played for Jaish in 2011 and 2012, scored from the resulting penalty to give his side the lead.
However, Ribeiro levelled the scores in the 43rd minute and both went 1-1 till the final whistle.
In the first half of extra-time, Ribeiro once again struckfor Jaish when he deflected a shot from Jin Ho Sin into the goal in the 92nd minute. Brazilian midfielder Douglao Ferreira, however, levelled the scores with a fine shot after three minutes to make it two-all.
Jaish, who defeated Qatar SC in their last Qatar Stars League (QSL) encounter 3-1, had their moments in the extra-time but their attacking moves were scuttled by some smart work from goalkeeper Sami Subait Hasawi.
Qatar SC will take on Al Sadd, who defeated Umm Salal in the first semi-final, in the final on March 15.
