Qatar Slips to 55th in FIFA Rankings

Doha: Qatar has dropped seven spots in the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola Men’s World Ranking, now sitting at 55th globally with 1,456.5 points. The new rankings were released Thursday by FIFA. The drop follows Qatar’s recent 1-0 defeat to Kyrgyzstan in Bishkek during the 8th round of the FIFA World Cup 2026™ qualifiers. In the current standings, Costa Rica ranks just ahead of Qatar at 54th with 1,459.13 points, while South Africa follows in 56th with 1,445.01 points. In the Asian confederation, Qatar holds fifth place, behind top-ranked Japan (15th globally, 1,652.64 points), followed by Iran (18th), South Korea (23rd), and Australia (26th). Qatar is ranked fifth among Arab nations. Morocco continues to lead the Arab and African rankings, placing 12th worldwide with 1,694.24 points, ahead of Senegal (19th globally). Egypt comes next (32nd globally), followed by Algeria (36th), Tunisia (49th), and Saudi Arabia (58th). At the top of the global rankings, Argentina remains the world’s number one team, maintaining its lead after a successful run that included wins over Uruguay (1-0) and Brazil (4-1). Spain has climbed to second place, overtaking France, which drops to third after a slip-up in Croatia. England (4th) continues to push near the top, while Brazil holds 5th place.
