Doha: A strong second-half performance earned Qatar's U-17 national team a crucial 1-0 victory against Yemen in their opening match of the Gulf Cup. The Group One clash took place at grand Hamad Stadium.
Following a first half that ended in a stalemate with both sides showing balanced play, the Maroons broke the deadlock early after the break. The decisive moment came from Faisal Saeed, who collected a pass in midfield, surged down the right side, and fired a low, powerful strike past the Yemeni goalkeeper.
Yemen responded with increased pressure, but the Qatari defense held firm to preserve the lead until the final whistle. The victory provides a perfect start for the young Qatari team as they aim to progress from the group stage.
The team will continue its campaign against Oman on September 24th and will face the UAE on September 27th, also at Grand Hamad Stadium.
