Doha: The draw for the Gulf Cup U-23 Championship was conducted remotely via video conference yesterday from the headquarters of the Arab Gulf Cup Football Federation in Doha. The tournament, one of the most significant youth competitions in the region, will be held in Doha from December 4th to 16th, featuring the Gulf national teams.
According to the tournament's format, the four teams in each group will play a single round-robin stage. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals, where the Group A winner will meet the Group B runner-up, and the Group B winner will face the Group A runner-up. The two victorious teams will then compete in the final.
Qatar was drawn in Group A, where it will compete against Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Kuwait. The competing teams were seeded into four levels based on the latest FIFA rankings prior to the draw. Consequently, the Qatari and Iraqi teams, as the top seeds, were designated to head Groups A and B respectively. Saudi Arabia and the UAE were in the second level, Bahrain and Oman in the third, and Kuwait and Yemen in the fourth.
