DOHA: Qatar maintained their spot at 95 in FIFA world rankings, it emerged yesterday.
Ranked 101 at the end of last FIFA rankings issued two months ago, Qatar are
now a notch above Asian giants China at 95.
Qatar, now coached by Djamel Belmadi, have accumulated 338 points.
Iran (37th) remained the top team in Asia, followed by Japan (47th), Uzbekistan (53rd), South Korea (55th) and Australia (59th).
Spain continued its reign as the best team in the world rankings, followed by Germany, Portugal, Brazil and Colombia.
FIFA calculates every country’s ranking based on match results (a win, a loss or a draw), importance (i.e. a friendly or a World Cup match), and strength of the nation’s opponent ranking-wise. These points are then accumulated from the country’s past results in the previous four years.
