DOHA: Qatar team is qualified to claim the title of the ongoing West Asia Football Federation tournament, the game’s ruling body said on Wednesday after the national team qualified the semi-final after beating Saudi Arabia 4-1.
Sheikh Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani, President of Qatar Football Association (QFA), congratulated coach Djamal Belmadi and the players after Qatar beat their gulf neighbors 1-0 to finish atop of Group A.
“I congratulate our loyal fans, the team and the coach on this fine performance,” Sheikh Hamad said.
“The coaches and the players have put in a great deal of hard work,” Sheikh Hamad noted.
“The backroom staff with the squad and the QFA officials also deserve credit for playing their respective roles in getting our team moving forward. We are moving in the right direction,” he said.
“Yes, things look good but remember we still have two matches if we are to win the title, our team showed us that we are improving, I think we have a real shot at winning this tournament,” he said.
