RIO DE JANEIRO: Marcelo Crivella, Mayor of Rio de Janeiro, handed over the key of the city and a jersey of Club of Botafogo de Futebol e Regatas to Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani, President of the Qatar Football Association (QFA), on Sunday.
The two officials met on the sidelines of Qatar's Copa America debut against Paraguay at the Maracana Stadium.
The QFA President also met with Alejandro Dominguez, President of CONMEBOL. Qatar's Ambassador to Brazil H E Ahmed Bin Ibrahim Al-Abdullah was also present.
In a later meeting, the QFA President called upon Evaristo de Macedo, Qatar's former coach, at the same venue. De Macedo praised Qatar's rapid rise in football.
