QFA President Participates in FIFA Extraordinary Congress

DOHA: His Excellency Jassim bin Rashid Al Buenain, President of the Qatar Football Association (QFA), participated in the FIFA Extraordinary Congress 2024, held virtually on Wednesday evening. The event was also attended by QFA Secretary General, Mansour Al Ansari. The FIFA Council convened the Extraordinary Congress under Articles 25(3) and 61(3) of the FIFA Statutes to address key matters requiring member input. The agenda began with a welcoming address, followed by a roll call to confirm the Congress was duly constituted. Key items discussed included appointing auditors and member associations to review minutes, decisions on suspensions or expulsions of member associations, and approving amendments to the budget for the 2023–2026 financial cycle. A detailed budget for 2025 and 2026 was also reviewed and put to a vote. Significant decisions emerged from the Congress, including the announcement of host federations for upcoming FIFA World Cups™. Morocco, Spain, and Portugal were confirmed as co-hosts for the 2030 FIFA World Cup™, while the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was awarded the hosting rights for the 2034 edition. Saudi Arabia becomes the third Middle Eastern nation to host the prestigious tournament, following Qatar (2022) and Morocco (2030). The Congress also confirmed that the 75th FIFA Congress will take place in Asunción, Paraguay, on May 15, 2025.
