Doha: The Qatar Football Association (QFA) has announced the return of the Qatar Amateur League for the 2025/2026 season. The league's comeback, after a two-year hiatus, will feature a new format with both a League Championship and a Cup competition.
The league's primary objective is to enable all segments of Qatari society—social, institutional, and governmental—to integrate, interact, and participate in organized football events. This initiative aims to significantly broaden participation rates and promote the practice of the sport across the nation.
A total of sixteen teams are set to participate in the ninth edition, including four new sides. The list of participating teams includes: Doha, Al Thumama, Barzan, Al Refaa, Al Rumaila, Al Nasr, Al Luwainah, Al Aziziya, Al Shaqab, Al Jassra, Al Matar, Al Najma, Al Gharafa, Shabbab Lusail, Mushaireb, and Al Hilal. Nearly 488 players have registered for the season, 288 of whom are Qatari nationals.
Proceedings will kick off on Wednesday, September 17th. The first round features two matches: Al Shaqab will face Mushaireb at 6:15 PM at Al Arabi Stadium, followed by a match between Al Matar and Al Luwainah at 8:30 PM on the same pitch. The round will conclude on Friday, September 19th, with Al Najma meeting Al Nasr at 6:30 PM at Doha Stadium, and Al Hilal taking on Al Aziziya at 8:30 PM.
All matches will be played at Doha Stadium and Al Arabi Stadium under a single-round league format. The top eight finishing teams will then qualify to compete in the inaugural edition of the Amateur Cup.
