DOHA: Al Markhiya, Al Shamal, Mesaimeer and Al Shahaniya posted opening round victories at the start of the 2020-21 Second Division.
A total of 10 goals were scored by the winning sides who did not concede any in their respective matches.
Al Markhiya beat Al-Waab 4-0 while Mesaimeer beat Al-Bida 2-0, Al Shahaniya eased past Lusail 2-0 and Al Shamal also produced a similar scoreline win over Muaither.
All the teams are aiming to qualify for the QNB Stars League next season.
Al Markhiya’s big win over Al Waab was posted at Suhaim Bin Hamad Stadium (home venue of Qatar Sports Club).
In another opening round match, Al Shamal beat Muaither in a match that brought them together at Al Khor Stadium. The two goals were scored by Jordanian striker Baha Faisal in the 49th and 60th minutes.
In another matchup, Mesaimeer defeated Al-Bida 2-0 at Al-Shamal Stadium. Abdullah Al Dayani and Al Dukali scored the two goals in the 75th and 90th minutes.
Al Shahaniya also scored a convincing 2-0 victory over Lusail at Hamad bin Khalifa Stadium (venue of Al Ahli Club). Romanian midfielder Valentin Lazar and Brahima Jay scored the two goals in the 36th and 86th minutes.
At the end of the first week of the Second Division, Al Markhiya top the points standings with a tally of three points while Al Shahaniya, Al Shamal and Mesaimeer are ranked second, third and fourth respectively.
Al Bida, Lusail, Muaither and Al Waab are placed from fifth to eighth respectively.
