KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA:Qatar coach Fahad Thani praised his players for shrugging off the effects of jetlag and fatigue to beat Malaysia and book their place at the 2015 Asian Cup.
Tuesday’s game at Shah Alam Stadium came barely three days after Qatar recorded a big 4-1 victory over Yemen in their previous Group D match in Al Ain, UAE.
Thani, who took over reigns at the national team during the elapsed 2014 World Cup qualification stage, said after the match “even though we faced some difficulties in the first half, we played a strong tactical game, and it paid off eventually, so hopefully we keep getting better and keep helping each other and pushing each other to the next level”.
He was also elated after the great display exhibited by young midfielder Abdulkareem Al Ali, “Him scoring our goal was the perfect reward for the good match he had, he represents everything we want from our up and coming players, I really admire how fast he is settling into the group and how fast he is adapting to our style of play”.
Qatar's last qualifying match will be played next year in March.
A total of 16 teams will compete in the 2015 AFC Asian Cup to be held
