DOHA: Qatar football is moving in right direction, the game's ruling
body said on Tuesday after the national team qualified for 2015 Asian
Cup following a hard-fought campaign.
Sheikh Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani, President of Qatar
Football Association (QFA), congratulated coach Fahad Thani and the
players after Qatar beat Malaysia 1-0 in their qualifying match on
Tuesday.
"I congratulate our loyal fans, the team and the coach on this fine
performance," Sheikh Hamad said. "We offer sincere thanks to God for
this honor," he added.
"The coaches and the players have put in a great deal of hard workover so many months," Sheikh Hamad noted.
"The backroom staff with the squad and the QFA officials also deserve
credit for playing their respective roles in getting our team moving
forward. We are moving in the right direction," he said.
"Yes, things look good but remember we still have a lot of hard work
ahead as we prepare for the 2015 Asian Cup," he said.
Qatar last Friday hammered Yemen 4-1 in their other Asian Cup qualifying match.
On Tuesday Abdulkarim Salem scored in the 65th minute as Qatar picked
up three points from their Group D encounter played at Shah Alam
Stadium.
