The residents of the Al Gharafa area envisioned the establishment of a sports club to serve the youth and community of this region, which has long been known for producing prominent sports leaders. This vision led to the founding of the club under the name Al Ittihad Sports Club on June 6, 1979. It was officially recognized on September 23 of the same year by Decision No. (9).
The club’s first Board of Directors was chaired by His Excellency Sheikh Khalifa bin Fahad bin Mohammed Al Thani, who served from 1979 to 1980 for one year.
Al Gharafa is considered one of the key contributors to Qatari football, known for developing outstanding players and administrators. The club boasts a proud history filled with significant achievements both locally and internationally.
