Al Khor Sports Club, formerly known as Al Taawun Club, was founded in 1961 and is considered one of the longstanding football clubs in Qatar. 

At its inception, the club primarily focused on football, along with a few limited recreational and social activities. It was officially registered and recognized by Decision No. (13) on June 10, 1964. Since then, Al Khor has participated in official events organized by Qatar’s sports, cultural, and social federations alongside other national clubs. 

In 2002, a decision by the President of the Qatar Olympic Committee—based on the club's General Assembly resolution—officially changed the name from Al Taawun Sports Club to Al Khor Sports Club.
